September is a great month in Japan for me. Work starts up again and with it the boredom and summer heat begin to fade away. September also has two long weekends, which mean I can ease back in to a full work-week. This past weekend I took advantage of my Monday off and headed to Beppu on the island of Kyushu for a change of scenery.
A scene from the ferry from Yawatahama to Beppu.
Right off the ferry Saturday morning, our first stop was the aquarium, Umitamago. The aquarium isn’t huge, but has some really cool features, such as a glass floor and tunnel. We accidentally arrived with perfect timing, as the days tourist rush flowed out we sauntered in and were able to see everything without the crowds of people.
Loving all the colours of the fish.
As a seal swims by.Watching the fish.Watching the dolphins as they play.
Then, there was this guy. He was just bopping along, watching all the people walk by.
Isn’t he cute?
After the aquarium it was off to check in to our ryokan, a traditional Japanese Inn. More on that later!
Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!
